It was an extremely humid start to the day, but volunteers came on out to get our mission done. We served just under 250 people in about 1 hour and 15 minutes; in fact, this giveaway had to go longer to fully accommodate those going through the line.
We had an outpouring of support from so many places this time around. Thanks to I Support the Girls Austin chapter, we still had sufficient feminine hygiene supplies for this giveaway (maybe even enough for another giveaway). A HUGE shout-out to multiple people that sent in backpacks for this giveaway. These were a very sought-after item and the supply of just under 30 flew off the tables.
We had some clothes from Lackland Air Force Base donated, in addition to tons from the local community in and around Austin. We also picked up lots of donations from the Atheist Community of Austin library as well, which was awesome.
We had a lot of new faces show up today, so that was an amazing experience. We received suggestions on new items to bring in the future like tweezers and foot powder, so we'll be keeping that in mind for the next one.
We had a few hecklers that came by, but we pressed on and had a blast. We'll be getting the inventory together over the next few days and will be updating the website with that information soon.
September 2, 2018, will be the next giveaway date so keep a lookout for that event.
Your friendly, Austin AHH Coordinator, Phil
