An overcast morning gave a brief respite from the 100°F weather. A huge and warm thank you to the 28 volunteers for coming together to serve 217 individuals on the 1st Sunday!! We had several new folks that joined us for the 1st time, which is always fun, and we hope they return for future giveaways.
So many different clothes were on donated, so much that we had several bags leftover for September. Thank you to all the donors who gave for this giveaway, ranging from neighborhoods around Travis county, from San Antonio to Georgetown.
Much ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 to I Support the Girls - Austin, the local chapter of I Support the Girls, for the supply of feminine hygiene products that we distributed in droves. For years of supplies for those with periods, we can't thank y'all enough!!!
The coffee and Kool - Aid stands were quite busy, as usual. 42 jars of hair grease for African-American hair were incorporated, but we still ran out ☹️
One of the special items this time was 7-Day Local Capital Metro bus passes, distributed in plastic baggies to help keep them dry until and during use. For those that are familiar, transportation is an enormous issue. Ranging from jobs demands, appointments with case workers, or even wanting to engage in the services offered by various groups around the city, it is a serious consideration. Reception ranged from surprise to deep gratitude to even tears, at times. Thanks to the ACA for the donation that made this happen.
The inventory is underway so you can except an update to austinahh.org/next soon, as well as the posting of our September event for the 1st Sunday. 💜💜💜💜💜
Your friendly, Austin AHH Coordinator, Phil
