The Texas Heat Continues...August 2021 Recap

A wonderful hug to all the volunteers that came out this weekend for the pre-packing and distribution events. The pre-pack went so smoothly that we were finished in about half the time, with 245 bags going out for distribution.

To all the individual/family donors that have given support, we truly thank you!! Shout-out to the Atheist Community Of Austin, Foundation Beyond Belief, and the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas for helping us to secure items for this giveaway. Though they are still travelling abroad, a lovely nod to the I Support the Girls - Austin team for providing all of the hygiene supplies for this giveaway.

It was with a heavy heart that we had to relay to hundreds of recipients that our main Transit Assistance Program (TAP), funded by the Atheist Community of Austin, had to be suspended for now. However, there may be news soon regarding TAP, we hope, so stay tuned. This, of course, does not affect our Focused TAP program which now supports 4 individuals with additional financial support and a 31-day bus pass every single month!! A wonderful thank you to Tracie and Robin (and her family) for donating to make this effort possible. It's hard to describe the impact ya'll have helped to provide to our 4 recipients.

As Prop B (potentially) moves into Stage 4 enforcement soon, we will remain vigilant to maintain our support of our friends and neighbors experiencing homelessness. We have contacts in several of our service areas and will be talking with local organizations/groups over the next month to keep abreast of what's happening. Please, in your own capacities, keep putting pressure on your city and county reps to ensure that the issue of housing stays at the forefront of their to-do lists. Forcing folks to move from one locale to another and/or seizing possessions does not address the issue of homelessness, housing does.
