Valentine's Giveaway - February 2019!!

As amazing as always, many hearts to the 33 volunteers that came out to aid 172 folks in our community. To get into the season, we had volunteers placing cookies into heart bags to hand out to recipients as they came through.

Coffee and hot chocolate were on the menu to warm folks up and there was an army of thermal socks and shirts for people to partake in.

Secular Student Alliance Austin, Texas Chapter, the UT Austin chapter of the Secular Student Alliance, came out to assist us this time and they were awesome. They jumped right in helping to pack wet wipes, over 1400 of them, into small bags for the line!! Thanks so much ya'll for coming out.

Thanks to the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas for getting us many jars of hair care products specifically for African-American hair. This is an extremely underserved item, and, in the words of Mary Ann, one of the Austin recipients asking specifically about more grease, "no one thinks about it except this group" as she pointed to Fil's hair. We will definitely put out the word to other groups in the area, such as the Austin Humanists at Work who distributes items typically the 3rd Sunday of the month, to help ensure that hair grease isn't a rare find in our community.

I Support the Girls - Austin, the local branch of I Support the Girls, was out there today, kicking butt with feminine hygiene products and bras for recipients passing through. All the love and kisses for now 2 years of giveaways with them!!! 💖

Much love to the Atheist Community of Austin and quite a few donors for providing a large amount of backpacks for ATX. These never last long and flew right off the tables. Speaking of tables, we had so many things that we had to borrow a few. In total, we used about 15 or more tables for all the items.

Much love to so many that donated clothes, food items, and countless toiletry items for this giveaway.

As a result of a large donation in mid-January, we were able to fulfill several special requests, such as Eddie's work boots for a new job that required them to begin working. After trying them on, we hugged, shook hands, and he should start that job today, February 4!!! Another large request was for jars of Vaseline, so a set of 60 made it out, along with anti-fungal and anti-itch creams. Thanks so much to you for that contribution (you know who you are 😁)

For next time, we will be targeting new underwear (not thermal underwear, like in January) for every person coming through the line. It'll be a large undertaking, but the support for these endeavors has been phenomenal in the past, so we're up for it with y'alls support.

Our next giveaway is March 3 @ 9:15am. After inventory is complete, you can expect an event later this week with that information.
