27, yes, 27 volunteers, little helpers included, came together to aid over 180 folks in the downtown Austin area. Combined with our winter-focused giveaway in December, we've given out about 220 blankets, 190 pairs of gloves, 70 heavy cotton shirts and lots of knitted hats to our community. Shout-out to those that donated for the Winter Blanket Drive that helped make this, in part, happen. We had nice, hot coffee for people to partake in to warm up. Support the Girls - Austin was out with us again in force to distribute feminine hygiene products and bras. They are always awesome and really have an impact on the Austin and surrounding area. The temperature was fairly mild to start off the day, but the lows in the next coming days drop to freezing so the extra jackets/coats, in addition to a few heavy comforters, were a welcome addition to the clothing isle. We had a huge amount of clothes from many different sources. The community in the Lakeview area provided many of the clothes, along with clothes from Atheist Community of Austin members and bags from Airman's Attic on Lackland Air Force Base. A big thank you to everyone who donated items, time and/or financial support to make this giveaway come together. We could not do what we do every month without you. We'll be back at it again on the first Sunday of the next month; that will be February 4th @ 9:15am.
