A huge shout-out to all the folks who helped make this effort happen, both with donations and volunteers. 263 bags totaling 789 meals were distributed throughout our four locales. Thanks so much to the Atheist Community Of Austin, I Support the Girls - Austin, Foundation Beyond Belief, and Freethinkers Association of Central Texas for donating to help make this possible, as well as our amazing individual donors to both the PayPal and Amazon wish list. Heading to our second locale, at Cesar Chavez and San Marcos, we noticed that there were no tents nor porta potties anymore. We got information from several of the residents were still left that while some people from the encampment got pulled into temporary housing, other people just had their belongings seized and removed, and there was some law enforcement action taken against several folks. The recipients relaying this information were simply sitting on the sidewalk as they had no tents to use anymore. It was a heartbreaking thing to hear for all of us.
It's hard to know what the future holds as the city begins more enforcement of Prop B, but we will be keeping in contact with our folks on the ground and others whom we serve to keep abreast of how best we can serve our community, in case any changes need to be made on our end.
