Green Flowers, Cookies and Bus Passes??..March 2020 Giveaway Recap

3/1/2020

Goodness, where does one even begin??!! All the love and gratitude for the 30 volunteers that came out today to aid those in our community. We served just over 230 people today!!!!! While we rocked it out in Texas, another AHH group got out in their community over in North Carolina, so shout-out to Atheists Helping the Homeless Charlotte and Black Nonbelievers of Charlotte NC for that!!
Our tables were a little greener today with colored carnations, shamrocks, and green cookies to round-off the theme. A huge shout-out as always to I Support the Girls - Austin , a part of the national group I Support the Girls , for coming out to supply feminine hygiene products to the Austin community (let alone help watch the line and put socks together).

Speaking of, we had so many elves assisting with packing cookies in baggies, pairing up socks and putting them together for easy picking, handing out bags to those in line, and conquering the coffee stand. Ya'll are amazing and this operation could not function without your support.

Speaking of the coffee stand, even with our new 10-gallon insulated dispenser, we ran out of coffee for the 1st time since switching to that one, but luckily it was right at the end. It seems to be a good fit for the amount of people we serve. In addition, we had gallons of cold Kool - Aid on offer. As the weather starts turning warmer and more humid, this comes back as a must-have for the next 6-8 months!!

A huge thank you to the Atheist Community of Austin for providing for 200, 31-day bus passes that were distributed at the tail of the line. During these times, we take extra care to ensure that each person receives their 1 pass. The smiles, hugs, handshakes, and gratitude shown when handing them out is something that sticks with you. It is hard to describe, quite honestly. For example, a gentleman took a card and thought it was a single-day pass until a volunteer told him it was good for a month, and he was visibly shaken.

We had an absolutely huge amount of books brought by a volunteer, so much so that we made a section on both the clothing tables and the main line (and we still have a good amount left for next month).

Thank you to the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas for helping out with hair grease and razors for this giveaway. Both of those always go fast!!

Due to the HUGE amount of folks that can through, supplies are virtually wiped-out for next month!! The inventory will be done very shortly and we shall post the items needs on the website and wishlist. To make a one-time or recurring donation in the interim, please visit AustinAHH.org/donate. We will see ya'll bright and early on April 5th for the next one!!!

With love,
