Winter Storm Relief Giveaway...March 2021

Goodness, this was an absolutely *HUGE* giveaway this morning; 9 volunteers armed with 320+ bags came out to make this happen (and we needed all the trunk space!!). The demand for tents and sleeping bags was still very high, so a big thank you to Foundation Beyond Belief for providing Winter Storm Relief Grants to provide these items to our community. We actually went to pick up more tents for several folks who still didn't have one.

Speaking of, in addition to our 2 main giveaway areas, we also went down to Riverside @ Pleasant Valley to distribute to a very large community there, in addition to the Ben White/I-35 area. Thanks so much to the Atheist Community Of Austin, the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas, and I Support the Girls - Austin, of the national group I Support the Girls, for helping with toiletries, food, hygiene supplies, wet wipes and so much more.

We met and talked with several new folks out on the streets today to get ideas about what was lacking, as we'll periodically do, so we'll look into incorporating that in the future. A church group that provides small meals everyday came over to speak with us at the Cesar Chavez locale. According to Mark, one of the leaders of that program, our group (known on the street as just "The Atheist Group") is the group they hear the most about from recipients. It was both humbling and heartening to hear that from another group who've never met us before.

We'll be out once again with prepacking (Sat, Apr 3) and distribution (Sun, Apr 4) next month. See you all soon and love to all of the donors who keep us going strong!!
