What a weekend this was!! Huge thanks to the 14 volunteers coming out to pre-pack (and getting 192 bags packed in record time: just 45 min👀👀) and the 19 on distribution day to make our 3 locales a breeze!! All the love to I Support the Girls - Austin for providing pre-packing muscle and much-needed menstruation supplies for recipients. Of special note, thanks so much to Bombas for providing ~100 pairs of socks for our clients. Socks are such a huge need on the streets, as you can imagine, so being able to incorporate those into our pre-packed bags was a special treat for almost half our those we serve each month!! A huge thank you to GO Humanity for aiding us with additional food items. Along with some fresh fruit items, we decided to sweeten up this Thanksgiving month with cookies !!
In addition, due to running out of bags last month, we had an assist from the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas with an additional 25 pre-packed bags to give even more cushion. Unfortunately, we STILL ran out once we headed to the 2nd and 3rd locales, so it's time to do a permanent increase in bag count for the 1st time since the pandemic began. Fresh coffee and cold Kool - Aid were still very popular this time around, though next month we'll be moving to hot chocolate to bring in the winter months. Speaking of, if you have gloves, hats, scarves, sleeping bags and the like, bring them out or contact us to arrange a pickup if you are unable to make it to the December events on the 3rd and 4th. These items are going to be heavily sought after as the Texas winter approaches. See everyone next month!!
