We hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!!
Here's just a few announcements:
• For those that have been asking or want to send supplies to Puerto Rico (PR) via Ateístas de Puerto Rico (APR), we have been advised that the current situation with theft occurrences at the port, with shipping containers, etc. has made sending items directly a tenuous method. Therefore, at least for now, if you'd like to help, you can make a tax-deductible donation at AidPR.org. Though their official disaster fundraiser has ended raising over $22,000 (*woot*), this relief effort will be for the long haul and you should see the link towards the bottom to donate to APR. APR is buying items directly in PR and distributing them with the help of APR volunteers directly to severely affected communities and people.
• Our blanket drive has yielded over 115 blankets/throws so far. *Yay!!* We're close to our goal of giving a blanket, pair of long socks and hat to every recipient who wants them. A special shout-out to everyone that has donated so far, directly or monetarily, and to our friend across the pond for 210 socks coming our way. If you have blankets/other winter wear to donate, bring them out to the giveaway on Dec. 3rd or visit our post here to find out how get it to us (or make a contribution to this project): austinahh.org/news/winterblankets2017
• Austin Humanists at Work, another secular group aiding our friends and neighbors here in Austin, has acheived non-profit status and is holding a fundraiser to assist in continuing the important work they do. You can find info about it, and the group in general, from their press release here: http://www.austinhumanistsatwork.org/press-releases/11.14.17-PR501c3A.pdf
• Lastly, beginning January of 2018, Austin Atheists Helping the Homeless will hold monthly giveaways on the 1st Sunday of each month. Now, you'll always know when the next one is happening. If you see a flood of events created on our Facebook page soon, don't freak out. Since we know when the giveaways will be, we'll go ahead and make the events ahead of time (though we will still post when the inventory and wishlist are updated for the next month).
*Wow that was long*
See you all on December 3rd @ 9:15am!!!
Your friendly, Austin AHH Coordinator, Phil
Note: Giveaway recaps included on this blog will extend back to late 2016. For earlier giveaways, please visit our Facebook page, where you can scroll down to your heart's content.
