Our TAP Program Continues for our 12th Anniversary Giveaway - September 2021 Giveaway Recap

​Thank you so much for all the volunteers that came out on September 4th and 5th.  This was the 12th Anniversary of Austin AHH 🥳🥳🥳  12 volunteers showed up to pack 213 bags of aid the day before, and the 19-person distribution team crushed it the next day.

Thank you to all the donors (in-person and from afar, AustinAHH.org/Donate) for making this effort possible, truly!! To the Austin organizations, community groups, and individuals who revitalized the Transit Assistance Program (TAP), you mean the absolute world to us and to those we serve every month. Due to Prop B's enforcement, we decided to not simply purchase the normal 200 31-day passes, but, instead, we purchased 400 so that not a SINGLE person we came across left without one (and we certainly needed the extra).

We brought back the clothing isle and coffee for this giveaway, due to the amount of items collected for distribution and it went very well. This hybrid model may return more permanently, but we're taking it one day at a time for safety reasons. For toiletries, a shout-out to the Atheist Community Of Austin, Freethinkers Association of Central Texas , and Foundation Beyond Belief for helping to procure items for the community, and we send all the hugs and love to I Support the Girls - Austin (of the national I Support the Girls) for wipes, other toiletries, and all the hygiene supplies for periods we could ever ask for.

To find as many people as we could, we covered a larger than normal amount of ground, including people/encampments at:

• I-35 @ 6-8th Streets
• Cesar Chavez @ San Marcos
• I-35 @ 4th Street
• I-35 @ Cesar Chavez
• Riverside Dr @ Pleasant Valley
• I-35 @ Ben White
• I-35 @ Airport Blvd
• and Hwy 183 (the entire 3.5 mile stretch from I-35 to Loop 1)

Thanks to Austin community activists and groups just like ours, we were able to distribute 263, 31-day bus passes to those experiencing homeless around the city!!! People were absolutely shocked, crying, and telling us how it would help them (especially now). From job access to resources, outpatient care to case workers, the TAP program helps to empower our friends and neighbors in this community.
